Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold.

I just said goodbye to my dear friend Sally Lehane Murphy who I have not seen in 30 plus years.  She arrived yesterday after dropping her daughter off in Vermont to stay the night and “catch up” on each other’s lives.  And today as she drove out the driveway I felt an overwhelming feeling of euphoria.  It is a good thing to encircle your life with friendships, of any kind, new and old.  I do not under estimate a good friend.  Someone who comes along in life who you may or not see often but each time you are in each other’s company it feels like time has stood still.  And the many years between visits disappears as the memories are shared, and the laughter comes back.  Thanks Sally for a great time – too short of one for sure.

As Christmas approaches and we think about all the gifts we need to get – it is so very important to step back and reflect on those we hold dear to our hearts.  The best gift to give during this holiday season is a gift of friendship – silver or gold.
